Oyekan Ibukun Edward, President, OAU_SU. This is the second time I will be writing on the bus issue because it has generated into what I did not expect nor plan. Some people want to use this avenue to hijack the union, paint me black, soil my name, tarnish my integrity and make people lose hope in my leadership. But as President, I remain resolute to truthfulness, transparency and trust. How the money for the bus came? It has never been in the history of this union that the University management releases backlog dues. When I came on board as President, I made the university management to understand why they have to release our backlog during the time the union was on suspension. Initially they opposed it, but I demanded it has to be released because it is our money. Later, the management agreed t...

From Congress to retrogress!

With the sincerity of  heart and without contours in my opinions, I actually witnessed a disastrous future and how dislocating the future of this country  today. According to the myth and historical lane that they have always been trending to me to me about Obafemi Awolowo University,  her greatness in consciousness and radicalism, and firm standing against oppressors and all and sundry. The school of great heroes and Icons in struggle, those who wouldn't care about their lives for struggles. Even,  sometimes I ask my self if truly Afrika  and other heroes of the Union attended this school or are those histories ordinary fables?  Intellectual fighters for Emancipation indeed!  How about the Congress, the highest decision making body in the school, hmm,  the Congress they said It is always full of depictment of intellectualism. ...because there is no space...

The heading is the word of a part one student of Obafemi  Awolowo University  to me one glorious afternoon when I asked him  why he did not enter the class for lecture, when  we met at ODLT lecture theatre. One of the major academic disasters of Obafemi Awolowo University is lack of  conducive  environment for learning, as the school is named great Ife but I repetitively question my self if the school is truly great. While waiting for a lecture at   ODLT lobby, myself and my friends were seated chatting, something sardonic just caught my attention and that was the discomfort position of some part one students while receiving lectures.                                                                    s These student were seen standing up to receive lectures, in fact, the lecture hal...

Should we say Olamide is the problem of his artistes???

Image
Olamide  Adedeji AKA Baddo is an artiste you will always admire his work ethics. The YBNL boss has worked damn hard  to finally get to this point in his career and has put in even more work to sustain the momentum. You’ll already know there are no dull moments with the Bariga breed rapper.  Olamide  Never Sleeps! On a personal level, he has achieved much; he has won a lot for himself in less than a decade. In fact, his rise in the last five years has can be likened to a bull trend on the stock market. With back to back hits and back to back albums; Olamide is treading the path to a legendary G.O.A.T status. In contrast, and sadly enough, on the corporate front he has not always been a winner. As cynical as this may sound Baddo has made several failed investments as a BOSS.Oh yes, that is something you only notice on a closer scrutiny. I dare say Olamide has made some of the worst signings in the last three years, more than any record label boss. Timeline O...

How many more students would die because of poor welfarism?   How many more candle-light processions would we hold? Many a students, especially those whose relatives are alumni of this institution must have been baptised with sweet tales of Great Ife. The unequalled & unparalleled infrastructures, academic excellence & strides recognised within the national & international community. Those (alumni) who witnessed the paradisic era on this campus can testify to the great welfarism of students & the inexpensive cost of schooling. A lot have even talked about the issuance of meal tickets to students at the beginning of semesters which runs till the semester ends, in which students are being served with nourishing & nutritious meals(with chicken) at various cafes in different halls of residence. (I am very surprised; a lot of students don't even know the initial use of their adopted reading hall). Ranging from the conducive, habitable & non-congest...

stress management in tertiary institution

Image
Education is believed to be one of the major tools to liberate us from ignorance, and unwitting mental, psychological, and emotional contingencies. Otherwise, it has been observed that in a bid to acquire education, most tertiary institution students have become victims of what this should have done to them due to poor stress management. Stress has been defined as a negative emotional, cognitive, behavioral and psychological process that occurs as someone tries to adjust to deal with tensions and pressures. It is no news in tertiary institutions that stress has been associated with academics as ‘a mental distress with respect to some anticipated frustrations which result in academics  failure or even unawareness of the possibility of that failure’. The etiology and pathogenesis of stress is complex and multifactorial, and varies across environments. Among university students for instance, Perceived stress may take the form of academic stress with multiple triggeri...
