...because there is no space...
The heading is the word of a part one student of Obafemi Awolowo University to me one glorious afternoon when I asked him why he did not enter the class for lecture, when we met at ODLT lecture theatre. One of the major academic disasters of Obafemi Awolowo University is lack of conducive environment for learning, as the school is named great Ife but I repetitively question my self if the school is truly great.
While waiting for a lecture at ODLT lobby, myself and my friends were seated chatting, something sardonic just caught my attention and that was the discomfort position of some part one students while receiving lectures. s These student were seen standing up to receive lectures, in fact, the lecture hall was congested to the brim, this made me approach one the students {who did not bother himself to enter the class} I was made to know that the course is a 5 unit course, which no one is expected to fail, what a GP sucker!
Sadly, I began to wonder how we expect these suffering students to pass the sexams when most of them could not even hear what the lecturer was saying, most of them decided to stay outside claiming they did not want to suffocate themselves.
Now tell me, how do you expect such students whose comfort is being derailed in academics to read, and even to understand since they were shortened of explanation? At the end the examiners will not want to listen up to any excuses, as such, failure becomes viral, extra years, extra school fees is added up for them. What a miserable life!
In this light, my submission is that, the school management should provide better and spacious lecture theatres, and to create a conducive educational environment to avoid massive failure amongst students, so as ensure active learning process.
