The Annulment of Democracy

The Annulment of Democracy

Flashing back into historical lane of Nigeria,  especially the part in which Many Nigerians bled profusely for democracy but unfortunately because of dictatorial injunctions all their efforts then was in vain.

Recall that,  it is exactly twenty four years that the people's choice was bamboozled,  and many things fell apart in the whole nation.  During Babangida's regime, he announced the coming back of democracy,  which led to June 12 election (the freest and fairest election in the history of Nigeria),  people came out en mass to make their choice by voting their man MKO Abiola  as the Savior that  could save them from tyrant so as to meet their expectations in government.

Nevertheless,  reverse was the case of  their  expectations when the then president IBB decided to annul the election for no reason,  people saw this as deprivation of right and raping of mandate,  this made them rise up to protest and agitation which led to loss of many lives and properties because of democracy.

The aftermath of everything is where are  today,  joyfully to say,  we are now in democracy,  as it is.

According to Abraham Lincoln he said " democracy is the government of the people by the people and for people ". Of course ,  we claim we are practicing democracy,  our leaders celebrate  democracy with us every year , we even have public  holiday on the day but is democracy about celebration?

Starting from our education sector,  what do we have to offer?  Presently there is a state that non of  the higher institutions there is open,  what of our primary and secondary  education they are nothing to write home about,  students are always agitating for good welfarism and proper funding of education  but none of these have been met.

Talk about general welfare we have zero GP on that,  employment is horrible in the country,  many youths have resolved into involving themselves in all sorts of social vices.

What democracy do our workers enjoy?  when they are being given slave wage, upon that, majority of them still receive half salary!

Now,  is this  the democracy many people bled for?  Democracy that doesn't care about  masses and their welfare, where is people's interests while we have many politicians taking  our money to abroad leaving us in anguish and pain.

Truly we term the annulment of June 12 election as bamboozling of people's choice but what do we term today's disheartening  bizzare rule? I think it is no more "annulment" of election but of democracy.
